Join our dynamic team at The Hain Celestial Group as a Maintenance Engineer, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring our physical plant, machinery, and equipment are designed, constructed, and maintained to the highest standards. You will be instrumental in supporting the manufacturing requirements of our beloved Garden Veggie Straws and Terra brands, while adhering to all regulatory requirements. Your work will help us achieve our business goals and strategies in a high-speed manufacturing environment, where safety, food safety, quality, cost, and GMP standards are paramount.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Technical Manager to support capital project execution for all plant value streams.
  • Drive process optimization projects to enhance throughput, safety, and raw ingredient conversion.
  • Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns, deploying and assisting the maintenance crew to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate efforts for outside technical assistance when needed.
  • Develop scopes of work and send Request for Quotations to vendors to execute the current year's capital plan.
  • Create SOPs and train the team on new equipment such as wastewater, boiler operations, and air systems.
  • Work with the operations management team to develop budgets for capital expenditures and maintenance of existing equipment and facilities. Draft and submit Capital Expenditure Requests.
  • Troubleshoot and recommend solutions for systemic equipment reliability issues.
  • Assist the Planner/Scheduler in building effective MRO processes and recommending spares for parts room inventory control.
  • Lead waste improvement projects.
  • Interface with staff managers, outside contractors, and engineers regarding operations equipment, facility upkeep, renovations, or construction.
  • Collaborate with federal and state plant inspectors, boiler inspectors, and local code enforcement officers.
  • Adhere to all Food Safety guidelines, including GMPs, Allergen Program, Quality, HACCP, Sanitation, and Safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:
Required:
  • Experience in a food manufacturing / processing facility
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

Competencies and Proficiency Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of federal safety regulations and electrical codes (OSHA & NEC a plus).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, government regulations, and general business periodicals.
  • Proficiency in advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Capability to generate mechanical drawings and apply graphical development techniques.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in interpreting mechanical and electrical schematic diagrams and technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Familiarity with basic computer concepts and operations; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites, CAD/drafting software, and Maintenance software.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of all safety requirements and cautions.
  • Ability to perform necessary physical labor and flex schedule to support specific initiatives.
  • Proficiency in English, with Spanish as a second language being a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with a diverse range of individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing machinery/equipment systems, including PLC controllers, variable frequency drives, DC controllers, servos, instrumentation, sensors, photo electrics, form/fill/seal machines, carton/packaging machines, milling equipment, code dating equipment, screening/classifying/separation equipment, volumetric filling, statistical scale filling, motorized conveyors, labeling machines, box closers, hot melt systems, pumps and controllers, label applicators, metal detectors, power transmission components, and electrical control devices.
  • Knowledge of facility support systems, including plumbing, electrical, steam generation, compressors, and plant air system design.
  • Exposure to testing and measuring instruments for both electrical and mechanical applications, welding and cutting equipment, shop machinery and power tools, drafting tools, CAD software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning electrical and mechanical systems and provide accurate diagnostic evaluations.
  • Familiarity with lubrication theory, lubricants, and proper application.
  • Ability to operate man lifts and fork trucks safely and efficiently.

Scope:
Financial/Budgetary Responsibility: Interfaces with operation's management team to develop budgets for capital expenditures and maintenance of existing equipment and facilities
Team Size: No direct/indirect reports.

Conditions of Role:
Travel Requirements:
  • Approximately 10% travel to visit vendor locations in order to support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for new or modified equipment for the site.

Physical Conditions:
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Regularly required to work around operating equipment, stand, reach, pull, stoop, and bend. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand, use hands and fingers to handle objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with some instances requiring ear protection.

  • $72,000-$90,000 (commensurate with experience and location)
