Job Description

Overview/Purpose:

The position will provide leadership and overall direction to an operations team (processing, packaging, line maintenance and materials handling), including execution of the production schedule, management of planned and unplanned events, performance management (coaching and development), training, administrative responsibilities, budget management, maintenance support, process control coordination, quality assurance, reliability, sanitation, and positive employee relations. The production supervisor will be required to work in a 24 hr facility operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Receives daily direction from production manager and other internal department leaders and helps maintain safe, accurate, productive flow in production area
  • Assigns and re-assigns labor in production as needed based on goals and direction from the production manager and other department leaders
  • Monitors and reinforces department rules and company standards for safety, quality, and productivity
  • Executes approvals and other processes in ADP for all department employees
  • Executes performance reviews in ADP for employees as assigned
  • Provides coaching and feedback as needed to the workforce
  • Serves as process SME and helps resolve issues related to process, equipment, and tools related to production
  • Executes various audits, checklists, and other forms of verification of production/warehouse processes
  • Gathers and monitors production process metrics via MES to provide effective and timely course correction as needed
  • As part of the leadership team, assists with root cause analysis of errors, solves problems as able and escalates issues appropriately when needed
  • Audits performance and provides retraining for all employees as needed or directed
  • Supports 5/S and other continuous improvement initiatives
  • Oversees training process for all new hires
  • Completes other production related tasks as assigned by a supervisor or manager
  • Supports leadership in other departments as assigned


Qualifications

Requirements:
  • BS/BA Degree or equivalent experience in a manufacturing operation with experience in processing and packaging consumer goods products. Food industry experience highly preferred.
  • Must have experience with MES, Lighthouse, Redzone, etc.
  • Must be able to work well with and command the respect of associates and team members and the ability to provide feedback and coaching.
  • Must have a clear and concise understanding and respect for company policies as they apply to production requirements, safety, quality and environmental programs as well as regulatory experience with FDA, OSHA, state DEP
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Excellent communication skills, bilingual a plus (English and Spanish)
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement, and understanding of data analysis and trends (data collection, evaluation, trending, and reporting of basic operating metrics)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude/troubleshooting and thorough knowledge of production equipment operation.
  • High degree of familiarity with Excel, Word, Power Point, MES
  • Follow all Food Safety guidelines, such as but not limited to: GMPs, Allergen Program, HACCP, Sanitation,
  • Strong Safety Record
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to understand internal partners up and downstream from operations
  • High degree of flexibility
  • High energy and proven speed of execution

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This person has multiple direct reports and is indirectly responsible for as many as 100 packers, line leads and other production support employees. All production personnel are responsible to take work direction from supervisors and the Production supervisor may be asked to provide coverage in other departments/shifts as needed. Occasional weekends as needed.

Hours and Travel

This person may occasionally be asked to help cover for supervisors on other shifts on a case-by-case basis. Travel is not generally required for this position though some assignments and training may be held off-site.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to work around operating equipment, stand, reach, pull, stoop and bend
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection if necessary.
