Job Description

Basic Purpose:

The Maintenance Engineer ensures that the physical plant, machinery, and equipment are designed, constructed, and continuously maintained in a sound and safe operating condition, complying with all regulatory requirements, in support of the manufacturing requirements of the Sensible Portions and Terra brands and the business goals and strategies of The Hain Celestial Group.

Tasks are to be completed while maintaining the highest safety, food safety and quality, cost and GMP standards in a high-speed manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work under direction of the Technical Manager to support capital project execution for all plant value streams.
  • Execute process optimization projects for plant value streams to improve throughput, safety, and raw ingredient conversion as assigned.
  • Responds in timely manner/deploys and assists maintenance crew as needed to deal with machinery breakdowns and minimize downtime; determines need for outside/technical assistance and coordinates efforts.
  • Build scope of works and send Request for Quotations to vendors to enable execution of current year capital plan.
  • Build scope of works and project ideation to enable execution of the five-year capital plan.
  • Build SOP's and train team for new equipment such as wastewater, boiler operations, and air systems.
  • Interfaces with operation's management team to develop budgets for capital expenditures and maintenance of existing equipment and facilities. Draft and submit Capital Expenditure Requests
  • Troubleshoot and recommend solutions for systemic equipment reliability issues.
  • Lead Autonomous Maintenance efforts for offline repack operations (poly bags and variety boxes).
  • Assist Planner/Scheduler in building good MRO processes and recommended spares for parts room inventory control.
  • Execute waste improvement projects.
  • Interfaces with staff managers, outside contractors, and engineers related to facility upkeep, renovations, or construction.
  • Interfaces with federal and state plant inspectors, boiler inspectors, and local code enforcement officers
  • Ensures compliance with ISO 9001Standard Operating Procedures as related to plant maintenance program and activities.

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • N/A

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of federal safety regulations and electrical codes.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, government regulations, and general business periodicals.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to generate mechanical drawings and apply graphical development techniques.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematic diagrams; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Familiar with basic computer concepts and operations; proficient on Microsoft Office Suites, CAD/drafting software, and Maintenance software.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand all safety requirements and cautions.
  • Ability to perform any necessary physical labor.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing machinery/equipment systems, including: PLC controllers, variable frequency drives, DC controllers, servos, instrumentation, sensors, photo electrics, form/fill/seal machines, carton/packaging machines, milling equipment, code dating equipment, screening/classifying/separation equipment, volumetric filling, statistical scale filling, motorized conveyors, labeling machines, box closers, hot melt systems, pumps and controllers, label applicators, metal detectors, all types of power transmission components, and all types of motors and electrical control devices.
  • Knowledge of wide variety of facility support systems, including plumbing, electrical, steam generation, compressors, and plant air system design.
  • Exposure to testing and measuring instruments for both electrical and mechanical applications, all types of welding and cutting equipment, shop machinery and power tools, drafting tools, CAD software.
  • Ability to "troubleshoot" malfunctioning electrical and mechanical systems and provide accurate diagnostic evaluations.
  • Familiarity with lubrication theory, lubricants, and proper application of such.
  • Ability to operate man lifts and fork trucks safely and efficiently
  • Understanding of basic principles of the ISO9001 program and other food safety policies/procedures

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to work around operating equipment, stand, reach, pull, stoop and bend
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection if necessary.
